The Holidays and the Month Ahead

Have not blogged in a while, one of my goals for 2010  is to blog more on a consistent basis.

If you know me, you are well aware of my lack of the holiday spirit. This principally comes from the fact that I have one of the world's smallest families and I am divorced myself. My Mom and Dad's parents were both very old when my Mom and Dad were born. This leads to a lack of living cousins, aunts, uncles etc.

.My kids, who due to divorce and their mothers remarriage, have about five Christmas' to go to, basically get spoiled at every one of them. The true spirit of Christmas for them should be to donate time/presents to those less fortunate. Still working on that and both of them being in affluent schools with competition for ipods, cell phones and the coolest laptops does not help much.

As I get older Christmas has become so commercialized and materialistic, it just puts me totally on life tilt the last two weeks of the year. I went the gift card route this year and shopped in about twenty minutes at the grocery store for the cards. My son ended up with what looked like a deck when he laid out all his gift cards he received this year.

From a poker standpoint, I had been playing ten days a month of live tournaments and/or cash games in Vegas in 2009. Frankly I was crushed my last two trips and have not been to Vegas since Thanksgiving. I honestly don't think it was a ton of poor play on my part, just my time in 2009 to experience some negative variance. Tons of bad beats but you have all heard them before. Basically it wiped out some profits for the previous 3 months, but it really didn't put a dent in my roll. I did decide that December might be time for a break and my self imposed live ban ends on 1/1/2010.

Parlay Cards and Other Thoughts

So, I admit it, I am a sucker for the Parlay Cards offered by the Casinos during football season. Not big money invested just 5 or 6 of the silly things for $20 a pop. First NFL weekend, I have two seven team NFL cards and I go 5 for 5 on Sunday and am left with the Pats and Bolts covering for a $2K plus payday. If you watched the absolute terrible display by both of those teams you will know that those tickets are now deposited in my trash can. The books had a huge win last night with both double digit plus and moving up favorites not even coming close to covering.

I am leaving for Texas tomorrow so yeah I will be at Red Rock  today with another $100 to play cards again for this weekend, why I ask myself.

My good friends from Texas where here in Vegas this weekend along with their 21 year old daughter. We all had a good time playing poker, slots and just the normal Vegas tourist stuff.

They left on Sunday and I spent the day watching NFL at Red Rock, I met this absolutely crazy dude from Utah who was just a party, if you read this I think you owe me $200 on a ticket we split.

Actually met a cute Vegas girl at the bar on Sunday, seems to have her head on straight and likes to have a good time. We will see if anything develops on that front

The Week Ahead

My kids started school today, 6th and 7th grade, so I am getting back on a regular schedule. That means my kids are with me every other Thursday for four days. We had a great summer together and they spent alot of time with me. For the last four days my 12 yr old son and his 14 yr old cousin were at my house, so they have kept me on my toes. Damn I wish I would have invested in Gamestop in its infancy, spending alot of time at this place. Nothing much going on in the online world in the last few days as I have been focusing on my kids. Hadn't played in like five days online. Got just crushed on FT the last time I played with set over set all in in NLHE my nines to his tens.

Leaving for my Vegas house early Wed morning, tried to change my flight to today screw you US Air, you wanted $475 to change my departure on a total $219 ticket. Going to play the Noon Venetian tourneys Wednesday and Thursday and cash before/after and at night at Red Rock. Friday meeting some high school friends who will be in town for their Fantasy Football draft. They have a cabana at Rio on Friday so spending the day with them and out that night. Most likely will have headache Saturday AM. Its always good to see old friends.

Saturday my friend from Texas is coming for the Toby Keith show outside at Red Rock. She gets in early AM and we will play Binions 10AM Saturday tourney, then most likely the Mexican joint in Palms for Coronas and the big shrimp cocktail thing. She likes Harrahs so the warm up most likely will be cash Saturday afternoon at Harrahs.

I dig Toby Keith he is all about the USA and Whiskey, two of my favorite things, we can basically walk to Red Rock, its like five minutes from my house. There should be plenty of girls in short shorts, cowboy hats and boots, damn that's my favorite look for a chick. I am sure I will get in trouble. Most likely we will be at the round bar at Red Rock afterwards.

Sunday is recovery day, probably back to Binions for cash. Coming back to Texas next Monday.

Back in Vegas on 9/9 for the first NFL weekend games/bets. I have some crazy Steeler fans coming for the opening game on Thursday night.

My New Blog -About Me

I decided to start a blog today, it seems like everyone is doing it why not me.  A little about me-
I am the divorced dad of two great kids ages 12 and 11. I have joint custody of my kids and they are here alot during the summer and about 30% of the time during the school year. I live on the Fort Worth side of Dallas/Fort Worth and also own a townhouse in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas. I am usually in Vegas about 10 days a month.  I am a grad of UT Austin- Hook Em and love all the sports including the Cowboys and Longhorns, however the Steelers are really growing on me.

About 18 months ago I said Fuck IT to the corporate banking world, it was something that I had done for almost 24 years and it just became so full of corporate politics and BS I had enough. I formed my own consulting company which does some small business consulting. Beginning in 2009, I decided to try to make it a go as a poker player and sports bettor, I do play on Stars and Full Tilt but gotta say I enjoy live play and tourneys alot more.  In Vegas I play at Red Rock (across the street form my house) but mainly play alot at Venetian and Caesars is starting to grow on my a bit.  I have some limited tourney success and sure I get caught up with the WSOP on ESPN and want to be big time.  I play 2/5 NLHE and PLO is starting to become a favorite of mine. In Texas I play in some bar leagues, home games and those stupid idiotic casinos in Oklahoma

And by the way I shaved my head today, what the fuck looking for something different, I look like Stewart Cink, the pro golfer now.

That's enough will add more stuff later
